Larian Studios CEO boss Swen Vincke has commented on the massive success of Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8. As the last major patch for the studio’s beloved RPG, Larian is leaving Faerun behind for its next massive RPG.With player counts soaring for the RPG thanks to the new update—which adds Photo Mode, 12 new subclasses and more—Vincke explained that the team now has the “room” to focus almost entirely on its next game.
Larian Studios’ next game is the big focus nowSpeaking on Twitter, Vincke shared an image of Baldur’s Gate 3’s skyrocketing player counts on Steam. After the patch, the game has jumped all the way up from around 46,000 concurrent players to over 169,000 concurrent players with even more players on Xbox Series and PS5 platforms.“Feeling good today about where we are with BG3,” the Larian Studios CEO told fans on Twitter.
“Patch 8 got a lot of people playing again. It took a lot of development effort but I'm happy we did it.”Vincke explained that the game’s massive mod support—which has resulted in players creating massive custom campaigns with six-to-eight original companions—and fan support will keep the game going for a while.
With the game now finished and safe, the team is able to work on its next RPG, which isn’t expected to release until 2028 at the earliest.“With mod support thriving , I think the game will now continue to do well for quite some time,” Vincke said. “It gives us room to focus on making our next big thing as good as we can and that focus is more than welcome.
We've got big shoes to fill.”https://twitter.com/laratlarian/status/1914637297946931379?s=46While Larian is leaving Baldur’s Gate 3 behind for its next project, that doesn’t mean the series is dead.
Alongside mod support, Hasbro is also keen to expand the Dungeons and Dragons sub-series with a new entry that continues to “raise the bar”.For more BG3 coverage, read about how Larian has already fixed the biggest issues with the game for its next title.
