Stockbridge Library presents ‘Honor and Hope: Two Mohican Artists,’ the work of Terri OConnor and Rebecca Burr Stockbridge— From October 1st through the 31st , the Stockbridge Library presents “Honor and Hope: Two Mohican Artists,” the work of Terri OConnor and Rebecca Burr. Both artists are enrolled members of the Stockbridge-Munsee Mohican Band, located in Bowler, Wisconsin. Artist Terri OConnor grew up on the Stockbridge Indian Reservation, inspired by the celebratory gatherings of Native Powwows and a generation wrapped in their passion of honor and hope.
Terri OConnor is also a participant of the United States Department of Interior Indian Arts and Crafts Board where she assists with the promotion of authentic Native American arts and crafts. Rebecca Burr is a self-taught artist who began painting in oil at age twelve. Growing up on the Red River in Wisconsin, which is where she lives today, she developed a personal connection with Mother Earth that resonates throughout her work.

More information can be found online . *** Chesterwood presents “Metamorphosis: Three Ways through Fire,” ceramic works by Stockbridge ceramic artists Anne Ferril, Ingrid Raab, and Nina Ryan Stockbridge— From October 5th through the 20th , Chesterwood presents “Metamorphosis: Three Ways through Fire,” ceramic works by Stockbridge ceramic artists Anne Ferril, Ingrid Raab, and Nina Ryan.
Anne Ferril made her first moon jar after moving to the Berkshires four years ago. She was a long-time member of Greenwich House pottery in New York City and is a founding member of the Berkshire Potters Collective. Ingrid Raab has a longstanding working relationship with clay, beginning with traditional training in her native Germany.
She established her own studio in West Berlin, Germany, followed by many years of clay work in Eugene, Oregon and at the Harvard Ceramics Studio in Boston. Currently, she teaches at Berkshire Art Center. Nina Ryan has studied for the past ten years primarily with Berkshire ceramic artist Paula Shalan, as well as Berkshire Art Center instructors Ben Evans and Hunter Cady and Bard College at Simon’s Rock professors Ben Krupka and Harry Levenstein.
In 2019, Nina completed a Residency at Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts in Newcastle, Maine. The free exhibit runs from October 5th through the 20th at Chesterwood at 4 Williamsville Road in Stockbridge. There is an opening reception on Saturday, October 5th from 5 p.

More information can be found online . *** LAPINcontemporary presents “Seeing Landscape,” a group exhibition of works by Jen Violette, John Lanterman, and Douglas Gilbert North Adams— From October 5th through December 28th , LAPINcontemporary presents “Seeing Landscape,” a group exhibition of works by Jen Violette (acrylic paintings, hand-blown glass, and mix media); John Lanterman (black and white photography); and Douglas Gilbert (graphite and charcoal on paper.) “Seeing Landscape” presents interpretations of landscape from realistic to abstract, while providing the viewer with meditative and introspective views of bucolic scenery.
Jen Violette’s brightly colorful sculptures and paintings, masterfully simplify natural forms to create poetic and whimsical scenes in nature. John Lanterman’s photography is rich in tone, contrast and feeling. He provides the viewer with not only a glimpse of the moment, but a powerful feeling of the past.
Douglas Gilbert exhibits a remarkable consistency in style, characterized by his use of densely packed lines to create gradients and shapes, that culminate in a dramatic series of minimalist, monumental and abstract works. More information can be found online . *** Springfield Museums presents ‘Tiffany’s Gardens in Glass and Gilded Echoes: The Tiffany Influence in Josh Simpson’s Glasswork’ Springfield— From October 5th through February 25th , the Springfield Museums present “Tiffany’s Gardens in Glass and Gilded Echoes: The Tiffany Influence in Josh Simpson’s Glasswork,” two exhibitions that explore the inspiration and connection between glass artists Louis Comfort Tiffany and Josh Simpson. The exhibits place the works of two great American glassmakers in dialogue, examining Tiffany’s influence on Simpson and their shared creative impulses.
This dynamic exhibition features ten of Tiffany Studios’ famously lush botanical lamps and windows, along with nine nature study photographs drawn from the studios’ own extensive reference collection. It also features early works by Simpson, alongside mature examples of his renowned starry New Mexico glass and vibrant, multicolored Corona glass. “The exhibitions beautifully celebrate two visionary glass artists, bridging the timeless elegance of Tiffany’s work with Simpson’s modern brilliance,” said Heather Haskell, Vice President and Director of the Art Museums.

Turning attention to the forgotten things that occupy the periphery of our lives, both near and distant, their alluring vestiges are found, oxidized and mysterious, unappreciated flora and fauna, obsolete objects and mediums, and discarded folkways. Interpreting these liminal artifacts using methods that involve transferring materials to substrates in a way intrinsically more delicate than drawing or painting, these processes have conjured ghosts and help their shadows take form, renewed from the recesses of our collective memories, a mandala-like approach in rendering restores the old ways of being of our subjects, re-contextualizing them as the sacred resources we have newly discovered. The exhibit runs from October 4th through the 27th at Future Lab(s) Gallery at 43 Eagle Street in North Adams.
