On what would have been her 28th birthday, the brother of Jennifer Poole, who was tragically murdered, has paid a heartfelt tribute to her, stating: "Nothing will ever be the same again." The young mum-of-two was brutally stabbed to death by her ex-partner Gavin Murphy in her Finglas apartment on Melville Drive, North Dublin , back in 2021. Murphy is currently serving a life sentence for the horrific crime, and it was later revealed that Jennie had been living in fear of her abusive partner.

Unbeknownst to Jennie, 24 at the time, Murphy had a history of violent behaviour, including a conviction for assaulting a former partner. She was under the impression that Murphy had just returned from Spain, when in reality, he had been behind bars. In the wake of this tragedy, Jennie's brother Jason has been tirelessly campaigning for the establishment of a domestic violence register. This would enable those with concerns to request information about a potential partner's violent past from authorities. Jason has been urging the Government to implement several measures under 'Jennie's Law' to help put an end to violence against women.

He believes that if a domestic violence register had been in place before the monstrous Murphy took his sister's life, Jennie would still be here today. She would have been able to investigate his background and discover his previous conviction. Jason shared an emotional tribute to his sister on social media, accompanied by photos of Jennie over the years.

He wrote: "I actually still can't believe I'm writing these but Happy Heavenly 28th birthday. I miss you so, so much Jennifer, nothing is ever going to be the same." "I hope you have the best day in heaven and now that nanny has joined you to mind and protect you up there.

Keep minding and protecting us all. Miss and love you so much from your big brother." In August, Jason welcomed new legislative proposals to give judges discretion to recommend minimum periods in prison for those sentenced to life.

Taoiseach Simon Harris and Minister for Justice Helen McEntee announced proposals which will now be referred to the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice for pre-legislative scrutiny. The Life Sentences Bill 2024 will give sentencing judges a formal role in informing decisions on the release of life-sentenced prisoners on parole. Speaking to us at that time, Jason said the proposal is "fantastic news" and something he and his family have been fighting.

He added: "We will never get Jennifer back and these murderers shouldn't get their lives returned to normal in 22 years or less in some cases." For all the latest news from Dublin and surrounding areas visit our homepage . Join our Dublin Live breaking news service on WhatsApp.
