The Great British Bake Off aired one of its most sensational episodes ever - with three contestants crumbling under the intense pressure of biscuit week. In what can only be described as explosive scenes, one contestant dramatically quit the show, another succumbed to a fainting spell, and a third took a hard fall to the ground. During chaos during the feedback of their showstopper, the typically stern judge Paul Hollywood was seen in disbelief, exclaiming: “What the hell is going on?” Meanwhile, his co-judge Prue Leith was the picture of compassion as she checked on the stricken contestant with concern and asked: “Are you all right?.
” The remaining bakers, still reeling from a gruelling four-hour challenge to create an edible puppet theatre, were equally disturbed and amused. They were also seen collapsing into fits of laughter, with Andy remarking: “They're dropping like bloody flies!” The baking hopeful who experienced the dizzy spell was 31 year old midwife Illyin, who just last week was awarded a prestigious Hollywood handshake in the opening episode for her outstanding cinnamon roll loaf. This week, however, saw her fortunes change for the worse when she began to feel faint, prompting calls for a medic amidst the tension.
She was quickly attended to by medical staff and placed in the recovery position inside the tent, Illyin admitted to feeling dizzy, which followed a disappointing performance in this week's signature challenge. A disheartened Illyin labelled the feedback on her Viennese sandwiches as "gutting" and conceded: "I knew biscuits were a problem." Illiyin had to step outside the tent due to feeling "woozy", missing out on the judging of her showstopper.
Following Illiyin's incident, another contestant chose to leave the show during the technical challenge, declaring: “I've had enough. I'm done.” Presenter Alison Hammond empathised with the departing baker, consoling them with the words: “You tried man.
You tried.”.
