'My brother's fiancée says I'm selfish for not letting her wear my wedding dress'

Wedding planning can be a stressful, time-consuming experience for many and, unfortunately, it can lead to some people making unreasonable and audacious requests of their family and friends

A woman has been left dumbfounded by her future sister-in-law’s “entitled” and “astonishing” request ahead of her wedding. Three years ago, the 29-year-old woman got married to her husband in a dress her mum “worked extra hours to help her afford”. Tragically, the woman’s mother passed away last year so her wedding dress has taken on extra special meaning as she feels “it’s all she has left of her”.

Now, her younger brother Ryan is getting married to his fiancée Amber, with the wedding expected to take place next month - but Amber hasn’t got her dress sorted yet. The woman isn’t Amber’s biggest fan, describing her as “bold”. On Reddit, she explained: “She says what she wants, takes what she wants, and doesn’t really think about how it affects other people.

Anyway, a couple weeks ago, she called me and said she needed to borrow my wedding dress for her wedding. “I was shocked. First of all, we don’t even have the same body type.

The dress wouldn’t fit her, and even if it did, I feel like a wedding dress is a personal thing, you know?” The woman refused Amber’s request and detailed why the dress was so “important” to her. She then offered to “help her shop for her own dress or lend her money if she needed”, but Amber was furious, branded her “selfish” and then hung up on her. Since the altercation, the woman’s brother Ryan has got involved and accused her of “ruining Amber’s wedding.

” In a bizarre move, Amber had already told people she was wearing the woman’s wedding dress and even shared photos of it on Facebook . Ryan said the woman “was being ‘petty’ and family should help each other out”. Undeterred by the woman’s refusal, Amber visited her house while she was at work and tried to persuade her husband to let her try the dress on.

The woman added: “Luckily, he knew the story and told her to leave, but now Ryan’s mad at him too, saying we ‘ganged up’ on Amber. I’m so tired of this drama. I feel bad because I know weddings are stressful, but I also feel like they’re being unreasonable.

Amber’s mum even called me saying I should ‘do the right thing’ and give Amber the dress.” People shared their thoughts beneath the post. One person said: “The entitlement of this woman is astonishing.

Stick to your no.” Another quipped: “Amber should ‘do the right thing’ and accept no when told it.” A third said: “You have no obligation to lend your wedding dress to anyone, regardless of their relationship to you.

” Another advised: “Hide the dress. I don’t trust people who are this entitled from personal experience. They get bolder and bolder.

” Someone else said: “...

She’ll have to figure it out. Lots of wedding dresses are available at resale shops even”, while another added: “Manipulative as hell, is [your] brother sure he wants to marry a walking red flag?”.
