Lahore is bracing for major disruptions as containers have been placed on key routes leading to Minar-e-Pakistan ahead of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) highly anticipated rally tomorrow. Major thoroughfares including Saggian, Shahdara, Data Darbar, and roads surrounding the Lahore Railway Station are heavily fortified, causing significant traffic bottlenecks. The placement of containers has already created congestion throughout the city, especially in areas close to Minar-e-Pakistan, where the rally is scheduled to take place.
Commuters are advised to plan alternate routes as authorities are enforcing strict security protocols, further exacerbating the traffic situation. Despite the logistical challenges and the fact that PTI is yet to receive a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the rally, the party remains steadfast in its plans. The Lahore High Court has given the deputy commissioner until 5 PM today to decide on PTI’s petition for permission to hold the rally.
PTI, however, has made it clear that they intend to go ahead with the public meeting, even if it means shifting to alternate locations in case of roadblocks or other obstacles. In a significant move, all six entry gates to Minar-e-Pakistan have been locked by authorities, following directives from the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA). Containers have also been placed within the monument’s grounds to prevent access, leaving tourists and locals barred from visiting the historic site.
PTI leadership has instructed workers to remain peaceful and avoid confrontations with law enforcement. They have also outlined a flexible strategy to hold rallies at alternate locations if entry to Minar-e-Pakistan is denied. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter of the party is gearing up, with each MPA tasked with mobilizing 500 supporters for the event.
