IOWA CITY — A look at some talking points after the Huskers' game vs. Iowa on Friday. From Iowa's postgame news conference Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz: "It really was just a classic November Big Ten football game from my vantage point.
Nebraska is a talented football team, and they played really hard and played well. They clearly had momentum at halftime. So we knew it was going to be tough.
" Ferentz on special teams: "The other building block for us for 20-plus years is just special teams. There were a lot of things happened tonight on special teams that were significant, but it's easy to cherry-pick Drew's field goal at the end, but I would also suggest that punt that Rhys hit prior to that to put them on the 20 tied right in with that." Ferentz on Iowa's bowl destination: "It will be really nice for our guys to have some time here to get regrouped a little bit.
One thing I do know for sure, wherever we end up, it will be warmer than it was tonight." Iowa kicker Drew Stevens on Nebraska's fourth-quarter fumble: “Max takes the ball from Mahomes Jr. (Dylan Raiola) and here we go.
” What other media outlets are saying: Drew Stevens got his redemption. A year after the Hawkeyes turned to Stevens’ backup, Marshall Meeder, for a game-winning 38-yard field goal to beat Nebraska 13-10 in Lincoln, the Hawkeyes (8-4, 6-3 Big Ten) turned to Stevens for a 53-yard, game-winning field goal as time-expired to beat Nebraska 13-10 in Iowa City. After mustering just 20 yards in the first half, the Hawkeyes rallied in the second half with 144 yards and 13 unanswered points to beat the Huskers (6-6, 3-6 Big Ten) for the ninth time in 10 games.
Nebraska out-gained Iowa 334-164 and won the time of possession battle 39:01-20:59, but turned the ball over twice in the loss. In the first half, the Hawkeyes’ offense looked more like its 2023 self, going three-and-out on each of its first four drives and five of its seven possessions. Nebraska outgained Iowa 182-20 in the first half and allowed the Hawkeyes to pick up just one first down before heading to the locker room after 30 minutes of play.
