Excelsior Sports CorrespondentJAMMU, Apr 19: In a momentous and proud development, a 112-member strong contingent of Masters Athletes from Jammu and Kashmir has left for Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh, to participate in the 7th National Masters Games, scheduled from April 20 to 26. The delegation, representing districts like Jammu, Kathua, Samba and Anantnag, will compete under the banner of the Masters Games Association Himachal Pradesh, affiliated with the Super Masters Games and Sports Federation (India).The Jammu & Kashmir Masters Games Association (JKMGA) organised a flagging-off ceremony to honour the contingent.

Addressing the gathering, Ranjeet Singh Chib, President of JKMGA and an international handball veteran, quoted, “You don’t stop playing because you grow old; you grow old because you stop playing.” He called the contingent a true representation of resilience and passion.DySP Kuldeep Handoo, Dronacharya Awardee and National Chief Coach for Wushu, lauded the athletes for breaking age barriers and inspiring younger generations.



Neete Kour Khalsa, General Secretary of JKMGA, hailed the Games as a tribute to enduring human spirit, while Inspector Ranjeet Singh Wazir, former international footballer, highlighted the emotional and psychological benefits of sport at every age.The event also witnessed the presence of veteran sports personalities like Romesh Sharma, Vinay Saraf, Somraj Gupta, Sanjay Puri, Rameshwar Manhas, and Mamta Bajaj, who extended best wishes.The athletes, aged between 30 and 72, will compete in various sports including table tennis, handball, badminton, judo, athletics, powerlifting, weightlifting, chess and basketball.

Key contributors include Rajiv Sharma, Neete Kour, Ranjeet Singh Chib, Ramesh Sharma, Varinder Sharma, Ajay Sharma, Neetu Kour, Dayal Singh, Anil Abrol, Mosmi Verma and Bhanu Pratap Singh. They are supported by 11 officials, including physiotherapist Dr. Sonia Chib.
