May used to be one of the quieter months on the TV calendar, but those days are over. While most network shows head into summer hiatus, streamers strategically deploy their springtime fare to satisfy audiences worldwide. Not to get too philosophical, but May’s new TV offerings encompass various stages of life, like the thrill of teen love in Netflix’s “Forever” (from Mara Brock Akil), or the transition from high school to college in Prime Video’s “Overcompensating” (created by and starring Benito Skinner as an awkward freshman), FX’s “Adults” (about a group of 20-somethings living together in one of their parents’ houses).
“The Four Seasons” explores changing relationships in middle age, digging into the dynamics of Alan Alda’s 1981 movie, while “The Better Sister” tosses sibling tension and a violent murder into the mix. Prime Video’s “Motorheads” sets the scene in a small town that loves old cars and tense races, while “Duster” takes to the Southwest in the 1970s — a challenging time for a number of reasons — on Max. As always, this list sticks to brand-new series (and one film that bends the rules) and English-language projects, some of which appeared in IndieWire’s Spring TV Preview, 2025 TV Preview, and Netflix and HBO/Max- specific previews.
Keep an eye out for a summer preview coming soon! Until then, here are 12 new shows to watch in May 2025. Ben Travers contributed to this article..
