Surat: Sachin GIDC police arrested two members of the ‘Gaddi' gang who cheated people in banks by diverting their attention. The accused cheated a man out of Rs 35,000 after giving him fake currency worth Rs 1.4 lakh.

Police arrested Shailesh Pathak and Sanjay Rajbhar and started further investigation. On March 12, complainant Ram Bahadur Kashyap went to Sachin GIDC branch of Union Bank to deposit cash he and his wife had received as salary. As he did not know how to fill out deposit slips, he was looking for help.

At that time, Pathak approached him and offered assistance in filling out the slip. Soon, Rajbhar came near him. Pathak gave Kashyap a packet of money, claiming it to be Rs 1.

4 lakh. He told him that Rajbhar had an emergency as he needed to leave for his native place immediately. He asked Kashyap to give his Rs 35,000 to him so that Rajbhar could leave immediately.

Pathak also told Kashyap to deposit his money in the bank account after taking his Rs 35,000 from the Rs 1.4 lakh he had given him. Thinking that he had Rs 1.

4 lakh, Kashyap gave his Rs 35,000 to Rajbhar. After Rajbhar left, Pathak also left the bank, pretending he had to attend a call. Kashyap checked the packet and found that only one Rs 500 original note was there on the top while the other notes were fake.

He could not locate the two accused. He filed a complaint at Sachin police station. "We arrested both the accused on Saturday evening based on a tip-off.

They were looking for their next target near an SBI ATM. The accused are history-sheeters and they have a similar case registered against them with Icchapore police. We are investigating if they had cheated more people," said inspector K A Gohil of Sachin GIDC police.
