Times News Network Ludhiana: Police officials were shocked when a 48-year-old woman, a resident of Sant Ishar Singh Nagar, went on rampage inside the Kochar Market police post on Sunday. She allegedly assaulted a woman cop with a sharp-edged weapon. When another policewoman tried to intervene, she allegedly manhandled her and tore her uniform.
Police lodged an FIR against Gunjan Sikka of Sant Ishar Singh Nagar, Model Town, under sections 221 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 132 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), and 351 (criminal intimidation) of BNS on the complaint of constable Renu Kaur. The complainant said that she, along with another woman constable, Amandeep Kaur, had been deputed with two women apprehended by the police on Sunday when the accused came to the police post and started hurling abuses at them. "When we objected, the accused attacked constable Amandeep with a sharp-edged weapon and she started bleeding, after which I tried to stop her.
However, the woman did not stop and tore my uniform before escaping from the spot," she said. ASI Dharampal Chaudhary, in charge of the Kochar Market police post, said, "Early on Sunday morning, Gunjan Sikka called the police, complaining that her son was troubling her. A police team sent to the spot talked to the family and neighbours.
During the inquiry, police found that the woman, Gunjan, was used to fighting with everyone. The matter was resolved, and the police team returned. Hours later, Gunjan came to the police post and attacked the female constables.
" The ASI stated that a case has been registered against the accused woman, who is yet to be arrested. Box: When cops turned sitting ducks April 11- A police team which went to a village to apprehend a man wanted in a case of blackmailing a minor girl was attacked by relatives of the accused. Police caught the accused but his relatives helped him escape by attacking the policemen.
Nine persons were arrested for attacking the cops. During the attack, a head constable suffered injuries, and his uniform was torn. March 26- Two groups of youngsters created a ruckus at Kailash Chowk police post and assaulted police personnel who tried to stop them.
The groups initially indulged in a scuffle outside a college near Dandi Swami Chowk, following which they reached the police post to file a complaint. However, at the police post, they again indulged in a spat. Besides attacking the cops, the accused also vandalised the gate of the police post.
All 10 accused were arrested. March 11- A team of Machhiwara Police that went to a house in Sherpur Bet village for a raid in a drug case was attacked by the family of the accused. After the incident, police registered a case against Kulwant Kumar, his son Neeraj Kumar, and Neeraj's wife, Komal Ghahi.
Neeraj Kumar bit ASI Sukhwinder Singh's right arm, injuring him. Thereafter, he got a blunt weapon and attacked the ASI on his left hand. Meanwhile, Neeraj's father, Kulwant Kumar, also obstructed the cops from searching the house.
He locked the main gate from outside, attempting to trap the police inside. December 1, 2024- Notorious criminal Vishal Gill and his aides barged into a restaurant in Subhash Nagar and attacked his rival, who was celebrating his birthday there. When PCR cops reached the spot and tried to stop the accused, they attacked the cops, leaving them both injured.
