Back Oyebamiji’s candidacy, demand unity for victoryA strong appeal has been made to the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) by notable figures in Osun State, urging the party to zone its 2026 gubernatorial ticket to the Osun West Senatorial District. At the official launch of the AMBO Movement, organised by the Falex Foundation in Ilesa on Thursday, former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Timothy Owoeye, alongside former Managing Director of the Osun State Investment Company Limited (OSICOL), Dr Tunde Faleye, led the call for equitable distribution of political power within the party. Both men advocated zoning the governorship ticket to Osun West, in the name of fairness, justice, and inclusivity.
They also rallied support for Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), the former Commissioner for Finance and current Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), describing him as the most suitable candidate to lead the APC into the 2026 election.Addressing party members at the event, Owoeye began by applauding the leadership qualities of former governor Adegboyega Oyetola, now Minister of Marine and Blue Economy. He credited Oyetola with holding the party together in Osun State through what he described as trying times.
“We are here today because of the unity our leader, Adegboyega Oyetola, has nurtured among us. His leadership has kept our party intact, and without him, what we are doing today would not have been possible,” Owoeye said. “It is now time for us to back a candidate who not only hails from Osun West but is capable of strengthening our chances of returning to government in 2026.
”Arguing for the need to zone the ticket to Osun West, Owoeye pointed to the historical precedence set by other districts. He observed that Osun Central had produced a governor for 16 years, while Osun East had occupied the seat for eight years. It was therefore, he said, the turn of Osun West.
“Osun West has yet to be given the opportunity to lead. Considering the current dynamics in the state, it is only right to support a candidate from the West. Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji stands out — he is a man of principle, loyalty, and capability, who understands the inner workings of the state machinery,” he stated.
Owoeye went on to underscore Oyebamiji’s credentials, noting his previous roles in government. He described him as a steady and experienced hand who had served with distinction as Finance Commissioner and as head of OSICOL.He spoke of Oyebamiji as someone with a clear vision for the state, saying, “Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji is one of us.
His integrity, intellect, and commitment to public service make him the most qualified candidate to take our state forward. We need someone who not only knows the system but is also equipped to improve it.”Echoing the sentiment, Dr Tunde Faleye, founder of the Falex Foundation, gave his full backing to Oyebamiji’s potential candidacy.
He remarked that the former commissioner had what it takes to return the APC to power in Osun State.Faleye also took a moment to commend Oyetola’s stewardship, stating that the former governor’s influence had been key to keeping the party stable and energised.“We are here because we believe in Asiwaju Oyebamiji.
He has what it takes to govern Osun State. His experience, transparency, and sense of responsibility are exactly what the state needs at this point in time,” said Faleye. “It is time for the APC to reclaim power from the PDP, and we are confident that Oyebamiji has the capacity to do that effectively.
”Support for zoning the ticket to Osun West was also voiced by other senior party figures at the event. Among them was Hon. Lateef Adebisi Jayeoba, popularly known as BisiJay, a former member of the Osun State House of Assembly.
Jayeoba restated the argument for regional balance and political inclusion, asserting that Oyebamiji’s record in public service and finance made him the ideal choice to lead the state.“Asiwaju Oyebamiji is a man of integrity and sound judgement. He understands the economy, has administrative depth, and knows how to work with people across the board,” Jayeoba said.
“He is the kind of leader who can steer Osun State out of its present economic challenges and help it thrive once again.”As the momentum around the AMBO Movement gathers pace, the pressure now falls on the APC leadership to respond to growing calls for power rotation and to give Osun West what many believe is a long-overdue chance to lead the state. The post 2026: Owoeye, Faleye demand APC to zone gubernatorial ticket to Osun West appeared first on Nigerian NewsDirect.
