In a post shared on social media on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, Mr. George described the incident as a “disturbing medical scare” and detailed that 22 children were impacted after reportedly consuming the local drink known as asana, which is suspected to have been contaminated.According to the MP, 21 of the affected children were treated and discharged for further observation, while one child was admitted overnight as a precautionary measure.



He also noted that the vendor who sold the suspicious asana is cooperating with ongoing medical investigations, with samples having been sent to the laboratory to determine the exact cause of the contamination.The update was issued following consultations with the District Education Directorate and the Medical Director of the Prampram Polyclinic. Mr.

George extended his best wishes to the affected children and commended the hospital staff for their prompt response and dedicated care during the incident.This incident underscores the urgency of ensuring stringent food safety protocols, particularly for vendors supplying beverages to school children.
