Bengaluru: Following allegations that textbook prices increased by 10%, the Karnataka Textbook Society clarified that the cost was raised by 2 paise per page. "Due to production costs, it was raised by 2 paise only. The rate of paper page is decided by the govt press.
It is on par with the govt prevailing paper rates, production cost, printing, and supply. Last year, it was 34 paise. Now, it is 36p per page," said Prema H M, MD.
"When you compare with the textbooks of any other publications, Karnataka textbooks prices are very low. Karnataka Textbook Society is not for profit. It is for service as per govt directions," she added.
She said printing of 30% of textbooks is completed and the supply has begun. She assured that the rest will be completed before the beginning of the academic year..
