Pune: Four autorickshaw drivers were booked on the charge of attempted murder on Sunday night, a day after they abused and assaulted a 24-year-old man in the same profession with a chopper following a dispute over taking passengers out of turn at the Gadital autorickshaw stand in Hadapsar around 8pm on Saturday. "The victim, Dinesh Rakhpasare, a resident of Manjari Budruk, suffered injuries to his head, ear and back after one of the assailants hit him with a chopper. The three others kicked and punched him," senior inspector Sanjay Mogle of the Hadapsar police said on Monday.
All four attackers are on the run. Sub-inspector Satyavan Gend, the investigating officer in the case, said there was a dispute between Rakhpasare and the main assailant, Vikas Shendge, around a week ago following a disagreement over not standing in queue and taking passengers out of turn. They had amicably settled the dispute.
Gend said commuters of PMPML buses alight at the Hadapsar bus terminus and board autos from this rickshaw stand to interior parts of Hadapsar. On Sunday, Rakhpasare again tried to take a passenger out of turn, following which a dispute broke out between him, Shendge and the three others. He said Shendge assaulted Rakhpasare with a chopper on various parts of his body, while the three others abused, kicked, pushed him down and fled.
Rakhpasare registered a complaint against the attackers under the provisions of Section 109 (1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita after he was discharged from Sassoon General Hospital. Gend said the assailants had been on the run since the incident and their cellphones were switched off. A police team is working on certain clues to arrest them at the earliest.
A letter would be sent to the Regional Transport Office, Pune, to ascertain if the rickshaw stand was legal, he added..
