Vadodara: A staggering 5,000 kg of plastic seized by the Halol municipality was stolen from the community hall of the Halol municipality, which recently went on an aggressive drive to seize single-use plastic bags manufactured in the GIDC. The officials identified three drivers, including two working on vehicles of the municipality, one peon, and a labourer who were involved in stealing parcels of plastic bags. They replaced the lock of the community hall with one that was identical and conducted the thefts.

Thakar registered an offence against the five accused at the Halol police station. Since January this year, the municipality conducted a series of raids in the industrial estate with help from the district administration, police, and Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB). It seized 850 tonnes of banned plastic from factories, godowns, and transport companies.

The seized material was stored at different locations, including the community hall of the civic body. Chief Officer of the municipality, Hiral Thakar, received information that plastic bags were being stolen from the hall. She asked two officials to keep a watch on the suspects and gather information.
