Kathmandu, April 22: The 76thanniversary of the communist party of Nepal is being observed, organizingvarious programmes in the country today. It was Baisakh 9, 2006BS thecommunist party of Nepal was instituted at Shyam bazaar of Calcutta, India. Itwas formed under the leadership of Pushpa Lal Shrestha.

The founding leaders of the partywere Nar Bahadur Karmacharya, Niranjan Govinda Vaidya, Narayan Bilash Joshi andMoti Devi Shrestha. Moti Devi was however absent during the party announcement. Nepal had got a communist partyafter 102 years of the issuance of communist manifesto and 32 years of theOctober Revolution.



The aim of the communist partyestablished underground was to challenge the tyrannical Rana system andliberate Nepalis from suppression and exploitation. There are several communist partiesand groups including the CPN UML, the CPN (Maoist Centre), the CPN (UnifiedSocialist), the Rastriya Janamorcha, the CPN (ML). The voices for the unification ofcommunist parties are heard intermittently in Nepal, but concrete realizationis elusive.

The recent glaring example was the unification of UML and MaoistCentre, thereby announcing the Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) in 2075BS, whichfaced debacle soon. However, the communist parties areobserving the establishment day organizing various programmes. The CPN UML isholding a special programme at Nepal Academy this noon.

Seven persons who contributed toNepal's communist movement and expansion will be honoured on the occasion. Abook 'Shelter' will be released in the event. Even the Maoist Centre and UnifiedSocialist are conducting the programmes on this occasion.
