The upcoming Robot Damashii Phoenix Gundam toy. Bandai Spirits With SD Gundam G Generation Eternal now out, a mainstay mobile suit from the series is finally getting its own toy after 25 years. Specifically, the Phoenix Gundam introduced in SD Gundam G Generation F on the original PlayStation in 2000 will get its own Robot Damashii toy this September .

The Phoenix Gundam has had cutesy chibi model kits in the past, as well as the odd garage kit, but this marks the first time it has been given the toy treatment and in “regular” proportions. The toy will also transform into Bird Mode (shown below) and includes the mobile suit’s full array of weaponry, including the Feather Bits (those are the grey things on the back wings, in case you were wondering). The Phoenix Gundam was also recently featured in SD Gundam Battle Alliance as a free unit for the player to use.

It was also a Sharpshooter mobile suit, so you could bring its sizable arsenal to bear a lot quicker, as you could bypass the slower reload setup. The only catch in all this is that this release will be exclusive to Premium Bandai , with pre-orders opening tomorrow in Japan. Priced at 14,300 yen (or around $100 at the current exchange rate), it’s not overly expensive for a modern Robot Damashii release.

This is most likely down to the fact that it doesn’t involve die-cast, which tends to increase the price somewhat. In any case, my real hope here is that following this, we may finally get a proper toy of the Gundam Latreia , also from SD Gundam Battle Alliance . It’s a wonderfully designed mobile suit and it would also be great to see it given similar physical treatment.
