Well, look, it was bound to happen. Like all good things, Heartstopper had to come to an end. The cast of the Netflix drama are getting older – not old, obviously, but too old to be galavanting around high school – while the graphic novels they’re based on have all been written thus far.
For a while, fans weren’t certain whether Heartstopper would return for a fourth season at all. But we can now confirm that it will be..
. well, sort of. According to the streamer, a Heartstopper feature film is on its way, and it’ll tie up the story of Nick ( Kit Connor ), Charlie (Joe Locke) and the gang once and for all.
After Connor hinted at the upcoming project in a recent British Vogue interview , it’s now been confirmed that the Netflix movie will indeed star Connor and Locke (who will both also serve as executive producers), with filming commencing this summer. To that end, here’s everything we know so far: What will the Heartstopper movie be about? Here’s the thing. As mentioned, the book the movie will be based on hasn’t even been written yet.
But creator, graphic novelist and executive producer Alice Oseman is working on it. According to Netflix, the film will essentially wrap up Nick and Charlie’s journey “as as an adaptation of Oseman’s upcoming sixth and final Heartstopper graphic novel”. As for the actual plot, the couple will be preparing to graduate, with new relationship challenges on the way.
“After Season 3, the couple is inseparable,” Netflix revealed in a press release (as a reminder, Season 3 culminated in the couple having sex for the first time). “But, with Nick preparing to leave for university and Charlie finding new independence at school, the reality of a long-distance relationship begins to weigh on them. Doubts take hold, and their relationship faces its biggest challenge yet.
” When will the Heartstopper movie be out? Not for a while yet. The upcoming finale-slash-feature film is due to start filming this summer, so we’d be looking at a start of 2026 release at the earliest. Either way, we’ll definitely be tuning into this sweet LGBTQ story – one last time – as and when it arrives.
