The 27th UK Asian Film Festival 2025 is scheduled from May 1 to May 11, across various venues in London, Leicester and Coventry. Mercy, featuring Adil Hussain , Raj Vasudeva and Niharcia Raizada in the titular roles, will have its premiere at the UK Asian Film Festival 2025 on May 5 at the Rich Mix Theatre in London. Helmed by debutant director Mitul Patel, the film explores the fragile moments of parting with a loved one.
It recounts the heartbreaking story of Shekhar, played by Raj Vasudeva, as he faces the painful decision of whether to end his terminally sick mother’s suffering on Christmas Eve. Niharica Raizada portrays the role of Shekhar’s wife Jiya, while Aparna Ghoshal plays the sick grandmother, Sujata, Kunal Bhan- the emotionally conflicted sibling, Vihaan, and Adil Hussain as Father Joel, the family’s spiritual adviser during their most difficult times. Talking about the film, Adil said in a statement, “Mercy, to me, is about the silent area where loss, love, and responsibility meet.
It’s about those moments when you have to make a decision not with your intellect, but with your broken heart," as quoted by Social News XYZ. Raj, on the other hand, shares, “Mercy is the reflection on the quiet, often unsaid feelings that follow loss. It delves into the strength required to accept the unavoidable, as well as the love that endures even when letting go.
" Produced under Raj Vasudev and Anuradha Sachdev’s banned Everclear Films, the makers unveiled the film’s official trailer last year at the Indian Pavilion during the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. At the trailer launch, the actor-producer shared, “I know that the film’s subject is off the usual path, but this is something we should all be discussing. I was pleased to see how the film’s trailer was welcomed, and this has given me great hope for the film’s reception around the world, especially in India.
" The 27th UK Asian Film Festival 2025 is scheduled from May 1 to May 11, 2025, across various venues in London, Leicester and Coventry. Themed ‘Longing and Belonging,’ this year’s film festival will offer an extensive range of films exploring themes of connection, identity and purpose. Apart from Mercy, other Indian films set to premiere at the UK Asian Film Festival 2025 include Nukkad Naatak, My Melbourne, We Are Faheem And Karun, Sholay: 50 Years Later and A Little Bit of Glitter.
