Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Metro Update: In a major update for the residents of the twin cities of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation has finalised a detailed project report (DPR) for fresh plans to link the metro services into the GIFT City and the Airport, as per a report by The Times of India. The GMRC is awaiting approval from the Union Government, after which the construction will likely begin. Once operational, the project will provide ease to the passengers to travel between Ahmedabad, GIFT City, and Gandhinagar.
It will significantly benefit the flight passengers in avoiding traffic to reach the airport. As per the report, the airport extension will connect the north-south corridor at Koteshwar. GMRC officials said that the DPRs for both projects have been approved by the state and are pending at the Central level.
For GIFT City, the extension will be around 7 km. It is expected to be completed at a cost of Rs. 2,300 crore.

CM Fadnavis Reveals Meanwhile, for the airport route, the line will start near Koteshwar from the Motera-Gandhinagar corridor. The passengers travelling from the GIFT City will have to change thrice while those from the Vastral-Thaltej line will have be change twice for the airport route.
The GMRC has floated tenders to prepare a feasibility report for the extension of the Vastral-Thaltej line. As per the GMRC officials, the extensions are planned keeping in mind to cater to the needs of the Olympics. The main extension is planned from Thaltej Gam, which would move towards the SP Ring Road up to Manipur.
It is planned to run the metro line parallel to the Ahmedabad-Viramgam railway track to minimise the cost of land acquisition..
