Bharti Airtel upgrades its AI anti-spam tool to combat international spam and support nine local languages, addressing a 12% rise in overseas spam calls to protect customers.

Bharti Airtel, a leading global communications solutions provider, today, announced significant enhancements to its anti-spam measures. Building on the success of its AI-powered spam detection tool, which has already flagged over 27.5 billion spam calls, Airtel is now extending its capabilities to tackle the growing threat of international spam and cater to the linguistic diversity of its customer base.

Recognising the shift in spam tactics, with scammers increasingly leveraging foreign networks, Airtel's AI-powered tool will now screen and alert customers to spam calls and SMS messages originating from international numbers. This expansion comes in response to a worrying 12% surge in overseas spam calls in the past six months. In addition, Airtel is introducing spam alerts in nine vernacular languages, with plans for further expansion.

This feature, initially available on Android devices, aims to provide clearer and more accessible warnings to users across India, ensuring they can readily identify and avoid potentially harmful communications. Supported languages include Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Urdu, and Punjabi. “Customers and their feedback are at the heart of everything we do," said Siddharth Sharma, Director Marketing and CEO Connected Homes, Bharti Airtel.

"After carefully analyzing customer feedback, we have enhanced our solutions to better serve the linguistic diversity of India. Additionally, with the growing volume of SPAM traffic shifting to foreign networks, we have decided to expand our AI-powered tool to scan all SMS messages and phone calls originating from international numbers. Our dedicated team of engineers and data scientists will continue to refine and enhance our offerings, ensuring we stay ahead of any and all emerging threats.

” Launched in September 2024, Airtel's anti-spam tool has already proven highly effective, identifying an average of 1560 spam calls per second. Since its implementation, Airtel customers have experienced a 16% reduction in unwanted communications. All these new features will be automatically activated for Airtel customers at no extra cost.
