Brighton and Hove City Council has sold almost £4 million worth of land and property in the past five years, including a toilet for £100,000. A Freedom of Information request by The Argus has revealed the council's total sales since 2020 amounted to £3,883,502, accumulated from 21 properties and parcels of land. The former public toilet at 201 Portland Street in Hove was one of the more notable sales, fetching £100,000.

However, some transactions were eye-catching for the low prices involved.

"In some cases, the council releasing assets also frees land up for important uses, such as housing development, community use, or for businesses to expand. "We always make sure that when we do so, we get the best possible price for the assets we sell.
