Allison Meyerink, Parker Denne receive Mitchell Republic MVP awards

The Mitchell Republic announced Allison Meyerink and Parker Denne as its most valuable athletes during the Mitchell High School athletic awards banquet Wednesday at the Corn Palace.

MITCHELL — Allison Meyerink and Parker Denne received the Mitchell Republic’s Most Valuable Player awards during the Mitchell High School athletic awards banquet at the Corn Palace on Wednesday night. The newspaper awards MVP honors to one male and female athlete at Mitchell High School, selected by the sports staff based on athletic performance during the academic year. Meyerink helped lead the Kernels to a 20-win season on the basketball court and a sixth-place finish in the Class AA state tournament.

Starting all 24 games, she averaged 6.3 points per game, and was second on the team in total rebounding (3.5) while leading the Kernels in field goal shooting percentage (.



526). Teeing it up on the links, Meyerink has scored a pair of individual titles on the season and was instrumental in Mitchell girls golf’s three team victories at their home quadrangular and the Huron and Pierre Invitationals. Having one of the best scoring averages in the state, Meyerink has also posted the lowest 18-hole score in Class AA this season, carding a 1-under 70 in Pierre, and is committed to play basketball and golf at Dakota Wesleyan next year.

Denne excelled on both the gridiron and the ice, playing integral roles on each team. As Kernel football’s No. 1 offensive threat, Denne accumulated nearly 1,100 yards from scrimmage this season.

He also started on both sides of the ball and was the returner for the Kernels on special teams. ADVERTISEMENT On the ice, Denne was third in the stat.
