April 17, (THEWILL) – Core members of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) have reaffirmed their loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the administration of President Bola Tinubu, rejecting attempts to sow disunity within the ruling party. Led by former Governor of Nasarawa State, Senator Tanko Al-Makura, the CPC bloc dismissed recent reports suggesting disaffection and defection among its ranks. In a statement jointly signed by 23 key leaders of the former CPC, the group emphasized its unwavering commitment to the APC and its ideals.
“We, the undersigned leaders and dedicated members of the former Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), instrumental in the historic merger that birthed the All Progressives Congress (APC), hereby reaffirm our unwavering loyalty to our great party and express strong solidarity with the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR,” the statement read. They insisted that the CPC bloc remains a foundational pillar of the APC and remains resolute in promoting the party’s progressive agenda. “As a legacy party within the APC, we take pride in the sacrifices made to build a platform that fosters national unity, justice, and development.
We will not allow individuals to dismantle the party we helped build through years of tireless dedication,” the leaders stated. Condemning efforts aimed at creating discord within the party, the CPC leaders described such moves as unrepresentative of genuine members. They also threw their weight behind the economic and governance reforms introduced by President Tinubu, noting that though the policies may be challenging in the short term, they are necessary steps toward rebuilding Nigeria’s economy and future prosperity.
While acknowledging that some members may feel marginalized, the group encouraged aggrieved members to seek redress through constitutional means within the party, rather than through public agitation or hasty exits. “At this pivotal moment in Nigeria’s democratic journey, all APC members—especially those who played a part in the party’s formation—must work together to preserve its legacy and strengthen Nigeria’s democracy. Actions that undermine our unity and national stability must be avoided,” they said.
The group further urged the APC leadership to deepen internal engagement and communication to promote inclusiveness, reduce tensions, and reinforce unity within the party. “We therefore reaffirm our loyalty to the APC and our steadfast support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. The CPC family remains a crucial pillar of the APC and will continue to play a responsible role in the party’s growth and Nigeria’s progress,” they said.
