FAIRFIELD — Rodriguez High School graduate Darla May Dela Torre has had a remarkable first season with the Sacramento State women’s golf team. Not only was she recently named Freshman of the Year in the Big Sky conference, she went out and finished tied for fourth overall on Wednesday in the Big Sky Championship. Dela Torre shot rounds of 68, 73 and 72 for an even-par, three-day total of 213 at the Wigwam Golf Resort in Litchfield Park, Arizona.

She played a key role in Sacramento State winning its third straight Big Sky title. The Hornets outpaced Weber State in the team race by 15 strokes. Her opening-round 68 was her lowest of the season.

She had one birdie on the par-5 3rd hole and eight pars over her first nine holes. Dela Torre birdied three holes over the next nine. The low round tied her for the best first round at the Big Sky Championship since Jennifer Kuga had a 68 for Sacramento State in 2022.

Dela Torre was selected first-team all-conference. She had a scoring average of 73.63 prior to the conference championship.

She competed in all 30 rounds for the Hornets. She had 11 rounds of par or better and became the eighth Hornet to be named Freshman of the Year since 2020. Sacramento State has automatically qualified for the NCAA regionals, which will be held at six sites, May 11-13.
