The new app will be introduced in May.

In an era of perpetual connectivity, airlines are required to offer a greater digital experience to their customers. This includes constant updates, the ability to use apps on multiple devices conveniently, and easy-to-use features, among others. American Airlines has done just that and will soon roll out an updated version of its app featuring a new design produced after examining customer feedback.

The new design is planned to allow future upgrades seamlessly. Customer Feedback Considered American Airlines has announced that it has redesigned its mobile app, which will be rolled out in May. The revamp was done after considering customer feedback and the features that were most in demand.

The carrier highlights that the more intuitive design will help customers navigate their trip planning with ease and has also been optimized for a smooth iPad experience. Among the changes introduced in the app is a more personalized home screen that will give passengers a quick glance at near-term travel as well as their standing in the AAdvantage® program. Of course, AAdvantage® members will be given a dedicated section within the app for more visibility into their progress toward status and rewards.

Heather Garboden, American’s Chief Customer Officer, commented, “We’re dialed in to delivering on new ways to make our customers’ travels with us as easy as possible, so improving their most powerful tool — the app — is a significant focus of ours. Over the last year, our team has been taking feedback from customers to understand their pain points and wish lists to make sure we’re tailoring the next evolution of the app to deliver what they want most. This newly redesigned app is the first step in giving us a base that will allow us to continue to build and release new features so we can always deliver what customers value most.

” What’s On Offer? Some of the changes that passengers can expect in the new app, other than a more personalized home screen and the ability to use the app seamlessly on an iPad, include a new section dedicated to all upcoming trips — both close in and far out — plus intuitive options to review flight status and find a trip. American Airlines has also highlighted that the app will have easy-to-use navigation with a similar look and feel to other apps customers use in their daily lives. It will also provide inspiration for the destinations to which American flies and ways to engage with the airline’s partners.

Additionally, there will be iOS upgrades, including Live Activities to display real-time flight updates on the lock screen. The primary use of an airline app for most customers is to book and manage their trip, including seat selection. Even as American upgrades its app, it notes that some familiar features will remain, and passengers can still expect to do the following, among other things: Check in, add bags, and select seats.

Receive a mobile boarding pass and add it to the mobile wallet on iOS. Access flight details on the Apple Watch. Leverage the chat feature within the app to connect immediately with an American Airlines travel professional.

Staying up-to-date on flight information, such as boarding and departure time, made even easier with the most up-to-date information available on Live Activities without having to open the app. Check the driving time to the airport. Add special services, including requests for wheelchairs.

An incredible amount of potential for time-saving features to be added. Digital Visibility Airlines and even airports now recognize the importance of offering a smooth digital experience to travelers, and that includes constantly upgrading their apps and websites. Earlier this year, Etihad rebranded its website and mobile application and added features to make them more user-friendly.

These included pre-populated data to save time, an improved seat map, and streamlined access to travel extras. Last year, United Airlines announced a new feature for its app: notifying passengers if their preferred seat becomes available after booking and even rebooking passengers automatically. Before that, the airline had consolidated its app by making live radar maps available in case of flights being affected by weather.

In 2024, as part of its rebranding initiative, Orlando International Airport (MCO) unveiled a new logo, revamped website, and digital app. It announced that the website and app were designed to be “faster, more secure, and user-friendly” for all visitors. The app features indoor turn-by-turn navigation, security checkpoint lines, and flight status notifications.

It also allows travelers to view current parking availability at the airport and provides access to its reserved parking system..
