Surat: Udhna police have filed a third extortion FIR against former municipal councillor Prakash Desai . A school owner had alleged that Desai extorted Rs 1 lakh from him while construction was underway at his school in 2013. The complainant also named two aides of Desai's — Avdhesh Dadhi and Lalu.

The FIR was filed just a day after a local court rejected Desai's bail plea in another case. According to the FIR, Jaysukh Kathiriya owns Sungrace School in Udhna. In 2013, he gave a contract to build two more floors on his two-floor school building.

Kathiriya was on a trip to Bangkok and Singapore trip that year, when he received a call from his employee, Rajesh Hirpara, that some persons had stopped the construction work. When Kathiriya returned, he inquired and found that Prakash Desai, Avdhesh Dadhi and Lalu had filed a complaint against his school with the SMC, for illegal construction. When Kathiriya met Desai near his home, Desai abused him and threatened to kill him if he was not given money.

When Kathiriya contacted councillor Mulji Thakkar for help, Thakkar told him to settle the case with Desai. After the intervention of Thakkar, Kathiriya gave Rs 1 lakh to Desai. As Kathiriya also owned other buildings in the area, Desai kept harassing him.

Desai also allegedly took Rs 3 lakh for not harassing him over his Leo Classes building construction. Based on frequent threats of extortion, Kathiriya filed an FIR against Desai with Udhna police. Desai is currently in jail for other extortion cases.
