By Saawua Terzungwe Chieftains of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday staged a unity rally in Abuja, declaring that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would secure a landslide victory in the 2027 general elections. Although President Tinubu is not yet halfway through his first term and has not formally declared his intention to seek re-election, APC leaders used the platform of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) unity rally—held at the Old Parade Ground in Abuja—to drum up support for his second term bid. The rally was organised to formally receive the Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon.

Christopher Zakka Maikalagu, councillors, and thousands of their supporters into the APC from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Speaking to journalists at the event, the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, expressed confidence in Tinubu’s re-election prospects.

Addressing the crowd afterwards, the deputy senate president called for continued patience with the Tinubu administration, stating that the president had inherited numerous challenges when he took office on 29 May, 2023. He said, “We are going to win FCT landslide by the grace of God. We are going to make FCT proud, we are going to make APC proud, we are going to make Mr President happy, and we are going to make Nigerians happy.

Let us continue to work together and give our full support to Mr President.” No vacancy in Aso Rock — Yahaya Bello Also speaking at the event, former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, dismissed rumours of a rift between President Tinubu and his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari, as the 2027 election approaches. “I want to assure you, come 2027, there is no vacancy in Aso Rock,” Bello declared.

He added, “Nigeria will be strong under President Tinubu. This mandate that Mr President is carrying is the mandate of the people. Let no one get confused.

The former president and the incumbent president have no issues.” Bello also extended an olive branch to former party members who had left the APC, urging them to return. “You can’t build a house and run away from it.

So, those who left the party should come back. If you are in APC and making demands, you are talking. But if you are out of APC and talking, you are simply making noise,” he said.

We’ll take over FCT –Ganduje In his remarks, APC National Chairman, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, said the party would take over the FCT democratically, applauding the defection of the AMAC chairman and his team. “FCT will be converted democratically to APC. Today, we have the AMAC chairman joining us with all his councillors,” Ganduje said.

“I urge you all to come to APC. He has come with thousands of supporters. The defection of this number of politicians to the APC is good for our party.
