Apple reportedly overhauled the management team in charge of redesigning its Siri voice assistant to include employees from its Vision Pro software group.Bloomberg reported chief of engineering for the assistant Mike Rockwell is bringing in employees from his Vision Pro software group to re-tool teams related to its speech, understanding, performance and user experience technologies.Updating Siri to better compete against assistants from rivals Amazon and Google is a top priority for Apple.
The tech giant faced several delays for improving Siri with new AI-enabled features.Apple stated in March the boosted features teased in June 2024 to allow Siri to tap into users’ personal information and have more control of apps, had been delayed, with a release planned sometime “in the coming year”.The news site reported Rockwell took over as the head of engineering for Siri in March, taking away some responsibilities from AI chief John Giannandrea and former Siri head Robby Walker.
Rockwell put Vision Pro employee Ranjit Desai in charge of some elements of Siri’s engineering including the underlying platform and systems groups.He reportedly told employees Desai’s experience in high performance and low-latency systems would help the virtual assistant reach a new level.Senior Vision Pro software executive Olivier Gutknecht is taking over the group in charge of Siri’s user experience.
Bloomberg stated Apple software engineering managers Nate Begeman and Tom Duffy are also joining the Siri team to run underlying architecture.In addition, data and evaluation expert Stuart Bowers is tasked with developing Siri’s ability to assess how to respond to a user, and Siri specialist David Winarsky will lead a new group responsible for voice and speech-related components.The post Apple shakes up Siri management team appeared first on Mobile World Live.
