MANY businesses across Ireland will shut down today ahead of a long Easter weekend. And although Good Friday is not a public holiday – meaning employees aren’t entitled to Public Holiday pay or time off – banks and other businesses will close early or entirely for the day. Both Good Friday and Easter Monday are Bank Holidays.

And while most people would assume that a Bank Holiday is for everyone, on Good Friday it takes on more of a literal sense. Only banks and schools close for the occasion, although some businesses may close even if it’s not a statutory public holiday. Easter Monday, however is one of the country’s 10 public holidays/bank holidays, so most, if not all, public workers will have the day off.

We have outlined everything you need to know about banking and post operations and opening hours over the Easter weekend. AN POSTAn Post will be open today for Good Friday but will close earlier than usual. Offices opened at 9am this morning but will close at 1pm this afternoon.

An Post will remain closed on Saturday, Sunday and Easter Monday before returning to regular opening hours on Tuesday. There will be full postal delivery services in the Dublin area and towns in rural areas. However, there will be none over the long weekend before full postal services resume again on Tuesday.

An Post has also warned those that collect social welfare payments to get them early to avoid having to wait until Tuesday for the cash. Those who were due to receive payments on Thursday, Friday and Monday April 21 have been urged to pick them up before 1pm today. BANKING All banks will be closed on both Good Friday and Easter Sunday.

Some branches will remain open on Saturday but it depends on your local branches opening hours – which you can check online. AIB confirmed it will be closed on Friday and Monday before reopening as normal on Tuesday. Bank of Ireland confirmed it will also be closed on the Bank Holidays – but agents will remain ready to assist customers on their digital channels.

PTSB branches will remain closed throughout the weekend. The bank is closed today and, since PTSB does not open on Saturday’s, will keep its doors shut to customers until Tuesday. PACKAGE DELIVERIESPost won’t be the only thing that won’t be delivered over the long weekend.

DPD Ireland confirmed that it will be deliveries only today, Good Friday. The delivery service will be closed on Saturday, Sunday and Easter Monday. Fastway couriers will not be operating for deliveries on Good Friday, Easter Saturday and Easter Monday.

Since the courier does not operate on the weekend usually, it will not deliver any parcels on Easter Sunday either. UPS has also confirmed that it will close for Easter Monday in Ireland. Some businesses will close for the four-day long weekendGetty Images - Getty.
