The latest Liverpool news after Arne Slot and Co. celebrated winning the Premier League on Sunday at Anfield after beating Tottenham Hotspur to confirm the title Jamie Carragher has acknowledged that the comparisons between Arne Slot and Bob Paisley are now justified after Liverpool won the Premier League . Carragher comparing the club's past and present is nothing new.

Before the final match of last season, he stated that Jurgen Klopp was the Bill Shankly of this era. Half a century apart, the parallels between their two unexpected departures were the subject of significant discussion when the former announced he would be leaving. Their replacements were, as such, inevitably likened to each other after it became clear last summer that Slot would become the club's new head coach.

But as Carragher recalls in a column for The Telegraph : "Nobody believed FSG could replace Jurgen Klopp and win the league straight away. "Let's be honest and admit that when everyone welcomed Slot last summer saying he could be "the new Bob Paisley", there was as much hope and romance as absolute faith in that being the case. "But Slot has justified those comparisons with Shankly's legendary successor and credit must be afforded to him and the hierarchy for succeeding where [Manchester] United failed.

"History shows how difficult it can be stepping into a managerial giant's shoes." Ian Callaghan, who played under both Paisley and Shankly, acknowledged the similarities in a conversation, again with Carragher for The Telegraph , in mid-March. "It's interesting how history can repeat itself, isn't it, Jamie?" he said.

Callaghan continued: “You have that manager [Klopp and Shankly] who comes in, builds the club up again and wins trophies, but then the next manager is the one who sort of benefits in some way. "Bob went on to win a lot more trophies than Bill ..

. I don’t think we can expect Arne to win the same number of trophies as Bob. That’s a bit much to ask.

".
