More than 100 brand-new original artworks are to be displayed in the town centre as a club marks a major milestone. Newark Art Club’s spring exhibition is once again to be held in the Buttermarket, from Wednesday, April 23, to Saturday, May 3. It is a milestone year for the club, which celebrates its 80th anniversary in May.
25 member artists have contributed to the exhibition, which will showcase around 150 paintings in a wide range of styles — and 130 of these have never before been exhibited. Organiser John Geeson said: “There’s mixed media, acrylic, watercolour, pastels, even pen and ink drawings. “You name it, there’s paintings of everything from wildlife to landscapes.
“We’ve had lots of new members join, so for many this is their first time doing one of our exhibitions.” As usual, the paintings will be for sale — with a percentage of each sale donated to Beaumond House — and visitors can also vote for their favourite piece on display. The club’s last exhibition, held in Autumn 2024, attracted more than 500 visitors and saw 31 paintings sold.
The spring exhibition will be open from 10am to 4pm each day, except Sunday. In it’s 80th anniversary year, the club boasts a membership of around 60 artists from the area..
