Assam: A conference on educational transition held in Mangaldai

Our Correspondent The Mangaldai Sub-Divisional Primary Teachers’ Association recently organized a conference on Educational Transition at the District Library Auditorium, Mangaldai, to address the various challenges faced by primary school teachers in the Mangaldai sub-division and to discuss possible solutions with district education department officials. Additional District Commissioner Ajit Kalita, District Elementary Education Officer Ratul Das, Secretary of the All Assam Primary Teachers’ Association (AAPTA) Ratul Goswami, senior journalist and President of Mangaldai Media Circle Bhargab Kumar Das, and other departmental officials attended the event, which saw the participation of approximately 800 teachers from across Darrang district. The function was presided over by Vice President of the Association Khabiruddin Ahmed.

The issues discussed included problems with the such as internet connectivity issues, technical glitches in the tablets provided, and transportation difficulties in remote areas — all of which contribute to delays in updating attendance and other school data. The Association urged the authorities not to take disciplinary action in such cases. Other key concerns raised were the need for prompt resolution of infrastructural issues in schools, adequate teacher recruitment based on class and subject needs, timely processing of departmental tasks such as leave approvals, service extensions, retirement benefits, and other job-related matters in the district and block primary education offices through a fixed schedule.



The conference also called for the appointment of specially trained teachers for pre-primary education, financial incentives for schools achieving A+ in Gunotsav, reconsideration of the decision to reduce school grants for low-enrollment schools, and the restoration of the previous minimum school grant system. Additionally, the teachers highlighted the need to streamline the frequent submission of paperwork for small transactions at the Canara Bank branch in , ensure school grants are not returned under any circumstance, and conduct teacher training programs through qualified trainers such as lecturers and professors from teacher training institutes and colleges. The Association further demanded regular and constructive inspections by departmental officials, timely provision of textbooks, and a halt to assigning non-educational duties to teachers.
