The BCCI reportedly sent a legal notice to The Grade Cricketer for using IPL photos and logos in their videos from social media platforms. The BCCI has reportedly sent a legal letter to the creators of The Grade Cricketer podcast for using logos and pictures from IPL in their videos. The podcast, hosted by Australians Sam Perry and Ian Higgins, has as a response taken down every single video related to the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League.
According to The Age , the BCCI considers the usage of still photography from the IPL in the podcast as “commercial" usage rather than for “editorial" purposes. Notably, The Grade Cricketer videos feature sponsorship placement for an Indian online grocery platform. “You may have noticed that every single video from our coverage of this year’s cricket tournament has been removed from YouTube, YouTube Shorts, Facebook, Instagram and X.
This is something we’ve done ourselves, it hasn’t been done to us, we have removed these videos," Perry told the podcast listeners on Monday. Explaining the reason, Perry added, “On Saturday evening Australian time we received a very polite legal letter about elements of our content from the cricket tournament we speak to you about pertaining specifically to this season. As a result, we decided to take those videos down.
" The co-hosts are scheduled to travel to India to shoot live videos in the coming weeks. “It’s very important to note we’re going to continue to post coverage of the tournament, at the same cadence that we do. In fact, there’s going to be more in the next couple of weeks because we’re going to India.
But our approach to content has been consistent for five years, we just now have a deeper understanding of what is and isn’t passing muster," Perry said. The Grade Cricketer’s produce a daily show called “The Big IPL Breakfast" and following the development, it might have to be renamed..
