Bay Area residents can expect a fair weather pattern for the end of this week as the latest weather disturbance moves out of the region. The National Weather Service (NWS) San Francisco predicts a warm-up for the weekend, with temperatures set to hover around seasonal norms. According to a NWS San Francisco synopsis, folks should expect a cloudy start to the morning, followed by some possible drizzle and patchy fog in coastal areas and higher elevation coastal ranges.
For those planning to venture into the great outdoors, Friday and Saturday mornings may bring slightly breezy offshore winds for the interior mountains. However, these conditions are projected to cause little to no significant impacts. "The surface pressure gradient isn't particularly strong, and we're really lacking the upper level support needed for a strong, prolonged offshore wind," according to the NWS report.
Despite this offshore wind, the NWS forecasts good moisture recovery with no major concerns over afternoon minimum relative humidity levels. The NWS long-term forecast, issued at 313 AM PDT Thu Apr 17 2025, anticipates that residents can expect a quiet weather pattern with daytime highs aligned with seasonal averages after the brief warmup. This may allow locals to enjoy typical spring activities under predictably temperate conditions.
Regarding aviation, travelers flying out of Bay Area airports should prepare for MVFR (Marginal Visual Flight Rules) ceiling conditions through the morning, with the potential for fog early Friday morning. The marine layer is well-established but may lift briefly in the afternoon before likely returning overnight, the NWS cautions. Sea-faring folks should note that the gradient between high pressure in the Eastern Pacific and lower pressure over the western US is creating a currently moderate to fresh northerly breeze across the outer coastal waters, with expectations for this to subside before potentially building back up over the weekend, as stated by the NWS.
No advisories or warnings are currently in place for land dwellers. However, the National Weather Service has issued a Small Craft Advisory effective until 3 PM PDT this afternoon for Point Arena to Point Reyes 10-60 nautical miles out, with another Advisory from 9 PM Friday to 3 AM PDT Saturday for the same region..
