Bengaluru: A 30-year-old mechanic was stabbed to death in front of his wife at his home in Bannerghatta police limits on Friday night, following a brawl over a trivial issue with a gang at a bar. Police acted swiftly and arrested four individuals, including a 17-year-old juvenile. The other three accused are Kanthi Kumar alias Kantharaju, Akash, and Gopal, aged between 20 and 23.
All are residents of Wilson Garden. The deceased, Suresh, 30, was a two-wheeler mechanic living in Kenchagaiahnadoddi with his wife. According to police, Suresh and his friends had visited a bar in Shanubhoganahalli village Friday night.
Kanthi and his friends, seated at a table adjacent to Suresh's group, were speaking loudly, disturbing others in the bar. When Suresh objected to their behaviour, an altercation broke out between the two groups. The bar staff intervened and stopped the fight.
However, after Suresh left, Kanthi and his friends followed him home. They barged into his house, confronted him, and in a fit of rage, pulled out knives and stabbed him multiple times in front of his wife. Suresh, who suffered stab wounds to his chest and abdomen, died on the spot.
His wife immediately filed a complaint with the police. A senior cop said that based on CCTV footage from the bar and inputs from Suresh's friends, the accused — who work as roadside dry fruit sellers — were traced and arrested Saturday. They have since been remanded in judicial custody.
