The world is certainly moving forward at a lightning speed, especially when it comes to the excessive use of technology and artificial intelligence (AI). While it was fine when it was used in other aspects of life, questions have started to arise due to its use in the entertainment industry. Weeks after AI-generated Ghibli Studios style portraits started going viral on social media, a trailer of an AI-generated Kannada film was also released.
Here’s all you need to know about it. As per a report by the Hindustan Times, Narasimha Murthy, a priest from the Siddehalli village near Bengaluru, Karnataka, created Sandalwood's first 95-minute AI-generated film, Love You, in just six months on a budget of Rs 10 lakh. With a limited budget and limited time, without any actors, musicians or crew, he brought the intense love story to life.
He collaborated with Nuthan, a graphic designer-turned-AI technician. For those who don’t know, the film has been certified U/A by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The duo reportedly designed everything, from the cast, to the visuals, including drone shots, as well as the soundtrack.
Reportedly they used 30 different AI tools to make Love You in six months, on a budget of Rs 10 lakh, most of which were spent on software licensing. The film, apparently, has 12 original songs and AI-generated dialogues, which he has contributed to. ..' Opening up about their journey during an interaction with Times of India, Murthy revealed that he dreamed of making the world’s first AI feature film and releasing it in theatres.
According to him, he planned on screening the film on just one screen to set a record. It is to be noted that despite his claims, Love You is not the world’s first AI-generated film, since Where The Robots Grow was released in 2024. He went on to recall the CBFC’s reaction after watching the film.
Quoted by Hindustan Times, he said, “Even the regional censor officer pointed out inconsistencies in the characters’ features from scene to scene. Creating emotional expressions was a challenge, and lip-syncing is far from ideal.” However, he added that the board was “impressed” with the “film’s ambition and innovation.

If we recreated the same film today, it would be a thousand times better.” Narasimha Murthy already has two more AI-generated projects in his pipeline, one based on Bengaluru’s founder Kempe Gowda, and another on the historical figure Immadi Pulikeshi.
