Christian Aguilar started out on the track, but found his true calling on the taraflex. Standing at 5-foot-11, the Benilde Blazers team captain began as a runner during his elementary and early high school days, competing in local tournaments in his hometown of Las Piñas and at De La Salle Lipa, where he eventually discovered his passion for volleyball. In his second year in high school, Aguilar gave volleyball a try after seeing his friends in Las Piñas play during summer vacations and quickly found himself hooked.

"So nanonood lang ako.

Doon nag-start. Second year ng summer." Aguilar later returned to Manila to continue his studies at La Salle Green Hills for senior high school, where he got his first real shot at playing volleyball in the NCAA juniors division.

His steady development eventually earned him a spot on Benilde’s collegiate roster. Now, he is paying it forward by making an impact on both ends of the court, using the speed, discipline, and explosiveness he first honed on the track. Aguilar is now one of the cornerstones for the Blazers, emerging as their second top scorer behind rookie Rocky Motol as the school looks to end an eight-year title drought.

—JKC, GMA Integrated News.
