Bennington Community Farmers Market now an official member of Vermont Farmers Market Association

BENNINGTON — Bennington Community Farmers Market is expanding and is now an official member of Vermont Farmers Market Association and NOFA-VT. The weekly Farmers Market will include even more produce from local farmers giving the market the ability to accept Crop Cash and Farm to Family vouchers. Crop Cash, a NOFA-VT program, doubles the value of SNAP benefits to help limited income individuals and families buy fresh local food.

The markets will also feature local food producers, food tastings, makers, artists, and local musicians. Each market will include family friendly activities and creative workshops and classes. The calendar of themed market events includes a Celebrate Earth Day on Saturday, April 26 from 10 a.



m. to 2 p.m.

with live music from A Couple of Joes Band, and local resources for composting, recycling, and energy efficiency from the Climate Advocates of Bennington, Window Dressers, the Town’s Energy Committee, and the Bennington County Solid Waste Alliance. Bees in my Bonnet Farm will have a limited number of silkie chicks for sale and will take pre-orders for silkies and silkie hatching eggs. May events include a Mother’s Day plant swap and a kid’s flower arranging class on May 10th, a Baby Chick Day event on May 17th with over 300 baby chicks for sale, and a Mayfest Ice Cream Social on May 24th.

Farmers markets throughout the summer and fall will feature activities that celebrate local food and the Bennington community including a Honeybee Day with local beekeepers, a Fiber Arts Day, and Bennington’s first Poultry Swap organized by the Vermont Bird Fanciers Club.
