After years of planning and construction, local and state officials will gather Friday, April 25, to cut the ribbon on the newly completed Berlin G. Myers Parkway. This marks the end of Phase III of a project to reduce congestion and enhance safety in Dorchester County.

The ceremony, hosted by the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) in partnership with the town of Summerville and Dorchester County, will occur at 10 a.m. at the parkway’s staging area.

Media members are asked to arrive by 9:45 a.m. for setup and audio checks.

Construction on the final phase of the parkway began in 2022 and is being completed ahead of schedule, a fact that officials say reflects the urgency and importance of the project. SCDOT, which oversees the planning, financing, construction and maintenance of South Carolina’s highway infrastructure, led the effort as part of its broader Strategic 10-Year Plan. The state’s transportation agency manages the nation’s fourth-largest highway system.

Members of the public, elected officials and stakeholders are invited to attend the ribbon-cutting, which celebrates a major step in Summerville’s continued growth and development. Those attending should take exit 199-A from I-26 to Highway 17, then turn left onto Berlin G. Myers Parkway.

Staff will be on-site to direct attendees through barricades to designated parking areas. For more information, media representatives can call Hannah Robinson at 839-228-9459..
