Oblivion Remastered does a great job of maintaining what was so special about the original release while beautifying the visuals, but this is a Bethesda RPG after all, and the best mods are pouring in after the game's shadow drop release. As with Skyrim, Fallout, and just about everything else, Nexus Mods is the easiest way to mod the PC version of the game, making things much easier (although manual modding is still possible). From preventing you from ever being overencumbered, removing item degradation, and giving vendors a cash boost, there are a whole host of handy mods that are worth downloading.
Here are some of our favourites, and how to install them . On this page: Best mods How to install mods Best mods for Oblivion Remastered Here's our picks for some of the best mods in Oblivion Remastered: Ultimate Engine Tweaks The Oblivion Remaster is pretty, but there's still the beating heart of Bethesda's engine in there somewhere, and that means it can be liable to fall down in places when it comes to performance. This catch-all upgrade mod essentially helps optimise the game, with creator P40L0 saying it removes stuttering, improves performance, reduces input latency and improves picture clarity.
Carry Weight Modifier Erok is a name you'll see a few times on this list, and this one is likely to be very popular for anyone hoarding everything they find in Cyrodiil. Carry Weight Modifier essentially lets you squish your inventory items down by making lockpicks weigh negative 150 pounds. We've heard of thieves being lightfingered, but this is ridiculous.
No Item Degradation Much like recent Zelda titles, Oblivion features item degradation. It makes sense that your gear will only last a finite amount of time, but it really is rough when you head into a dungeon with your best weapon only for it to crumble to dust. The solution? This mod from Erok , which, as they put it, “Simply removes weapon and armor degradation/durability reduction.
” Simple indeed, but very welcome. Richer Vendors Another Erok mod , this one buffs vendor coffers to give them 10x the gold where possible, or at least 1000 gold. That's handy if you're trying to sell a whole host of stolen gear but can't find anyone with a purse big enough to take it off your hands.
Unleveled Item Rewards This mod from Trainwiz removes levels from weapons and armor obtained as quest rewards, so you can have a much more flexible loadout. Balanced NPC Level Cap - Remastered Racking up the levels but not feeling quite powerful enough? We feel it, too. Since Oblivion Remastered's NPCs level with the player, there's a lack of power progression.
This mod from the aptly-named PushTheWinButton adds level caps for 1,400+ NPCs, so you can feel like you're growing in power when you tackle higher level ones, or overpower earlier ones. Classic Oblivion Color Grading The Oblivion remaster does a wonderful job at making the game look pretty modern, but there's something nostalgic about those fields that look like blocks of green. Thankfully, Wickedzz thought the same thing, and this mod offers drastically more vibrant visuals at the cost of some of the more realistic textures.
Quest NPCs Run NPCs moving a little too slowly for your liking? This mod from Dispensation gets them running instead of walking, which can shave plenty of time off of your questing when you add it all up. Auto Lockpicking always success As the name suggests, this mod from odashikonbu ensures you can open every door and chest with a quick auto lockpick attempt. You can still tackle them manually if you fancy, but this should speed things up if you're not a fan of the system.
How to install mods in Oblivion Remastered You can either use Nexus Mods with Vortex, or manually download them, to install mods in Oblivion Remastered. Nexus Mods By far the easiest way to mod the game, Nexus Mods is a platform that covers a whole host of games and has its own Mod Manager called Vortex. Once you set up a Nexus Mods account, you can download Vortex and install it to your PC.
Some of the mods below won't show up just yet, but with the remaster being shadow-dropped, it's just a matter of time until they catch up. Vortex is intuitive, too, letting you essentially run the mods straight from Nexus Mods' website, through the manager, and into your game when you boot it up. Manual Install Not able to find something on Vortex? You can manually install mods, but naturally this can be a tad less streamlined.
Select 'Manual Download' on a mod on Nexus Mods, and it'll download as a file. You'll then need to drop said file into the right directory on your PC, which will differ depending on how you installed it. For Xbox Game Pass players, the path is: [Installation Drive]:XboxGamesThe Elder Scrolls IV- Oblivion RemasteredContent For Steam, it's: [Installation Drive]:SteamLibrarysteamappscommonOblivion Remastered Extract the file into the relevant folder, and you should be good to go.
The mods on this list may have additional instructions, though, so be sure to double-check those if something isn't working. For more help on your adventure across Cyrodiil, check out our pages on console commands , and our Luck , Willpower , and Intelligence explainers..
