Betty Lou was born on August 11, 1930, to parents Ellen (Matthews) and Russell W. Meyer. She graduated from Davenport High and worked briefly as a lab technician.

She was the ultimate wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She chose homemaking as her profession excelling in cooking, baking, sewing, knitting, solving the Wheel of Fortune nightly, and crossword puzzles. She spent much of her life sitting in bleachers cheering on whoever and whatever was in season.

Baseball was an ongoing theme of her existence, starting with her husband's professional baseball career. Betty was a Cub Scout leader, Girl Scout leader, Sunday School teacher, PTA and Booster Club president, MOPS mentor, and twenty plus year member of Grandview's prayer team. She was the most amazing, simple, precious, selfless person.

Her main desire in life was that everyone she came in contact with would come to a saving relationship with Jesus Christ, and she prayed diligently every night at 9 p.m. Those left to honor her memory are her children Tom (Rita) Hoeksema, Richard (Carol) Hoeksema, Kathy (Van) Harris, David (Cris) Hoeksema, and Kristi (Jeff) Masterson; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren, with one on the way; her brothers Russell (Helen) Meyer and Jack (Mary Jean) Meyer; and many precious nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years Richard; and her parents. Her family will always remember her laughter, her smile, her humility, her unconditional love, and her rolls. Online condolences may be left to Betty's family by visiting her obituary at www.
