Body of five-month-old baby found near drain in Thane, police begin probe

Thane, Maharashtra: The body of a five-month-old baby boy was discovered on Sunday morning near a nullah carrying wastewater in the Waghoba Nagar area of Kalwa, Thane city, Maharashtra, police confirmed on Tuesday. Local residents spotted the body and promptly informed the authorities. The infant was taken to a government hospital where a post-mortem examination was conducted.

Police have registered a case under Section 94 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, which deals with the concealment of birth through the secret disposal of a dead body. The identity of those responsible remains unknown, and a probe has been initiated to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities are appealing to the public for any information that may assist in the investigation.
