The Mayor of Bolton was taken onto the moors surrounding the town and hidden near Walker Fold Woods, Smithills, this week - all for a training exercise. Bolton Mountain Rescue's stretcher team comprising 17 volunteers tracked down Cllr Andy Morgan and treated him for 'a broken leg and confusion'. The rescue team takes part in exercises like the one Cllr Morgan was involved in on a weekly basis.
Cllr Morgan said: “As Mayor of Bolton, I’m proud to support the vital work of Bolton Mountain Rescue. (Image: Andy Morgan) "Their professionalism, dedication, and selfless service mean that residents and visitors alike can safely enjoy the beautiful countryside and moorlands that surround our borough. "They are a shining example of community spirit and a true credit to Bolton.
” The mayor said: "We headed out to the moors where I was hidden in the woods along with another volunteer, whilst the mayoress stayed with the control vehicle to watch the exercise unfold. (Image: Andy Morgan) He added: "These dedicated individuals, who truly are unsung heroes, give their time, skills, and energy to help people in distress across Greater Manchester and beyond, from lost hikers to injured walkers, and even supporting the emergency services during extreme weather.
"As a registered charity, they receive no government funding. (Image: Andy Morgan) "Every vehicle, every piece of life-saving equipment, every callout is only made possible by public donations, grants, and tireless fundraising efforts." Cllr Morgan was also given a tour of the charity's control centre and headquarters prior to heading onto the moors.
He branded them as a "true credit to Bolton". "As Mayor of Bolton, it was a privilege to witness their skill, dedication, and teamwork first-hand," he added. "I’m proud not only of the organisation as a whole, but of each and every volunteer who gives their time selflessly to serve our community.
