August 4, 1942 - April 16, 2025 Funeral services celebrating the life of Bonnie Beechum, 82, of Davenport, will be held at noon on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 10 a.
m. until time of services. Memorials may be made to the family.
Mrs. Beechum passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at Good Samaritan, Davenport. Bonnie Lane Davis was born August 4, 1942, in Centerville, Iowa, a daughter of William and Aldeen (Jones) Davis.
She met her future husband, Joe Beechum, while he was home on leave from the Army, and they were united in marriage on May 13, 1967, in Davenport. He preceded her in death on July 3, 1995. Prior to her retirement, she was the first black woman to work in the Davenport City Hall, and she then worked for the Scott County Community Services Department as well as T.
R.A.I.
N. She then worked for many years for United Neighbors. Over the years Bonnie was active on many committees including the United Way, Davenport Graffiti Board, Black Family Conference, Scott County Housing Authority, Jefferson School PTA and was a founder of the North High School STEP Program.
She was an avid Wheel of Fortune and Young & The Restless watcher as well as football. She was a long-suffering fan of the Chicago Bears. She also enjoyed playing her lottery numbers habitually.
Survivors include her daughters, Kristi Hughes of Delaware, Jodi (Kelly) Beechum, Bobbette Beechum all of Davenport; Kristy "Kim" Edwards of St. Louis; grandchildren, Derrick Beechum, Sydnee Hughes, Traverious (Shannon) Beechum, Kyeria Morgan, Kayla (Alex) Morgan, NaKaré Beechum, Nasir Beechum, Tremont (Hollie) Edwards, Laneya Edwards; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lee Ann Davis and Penny King both of Des Moines; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Additionally, she was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Billie Lloyd and Diana Lloyd.
