BOSSIER CITY, La, - The battle for term limits in Bossier City could possibly be coming to an end next Saturday. Saturday was the last day for early voting, and in exactly a week Bossier City citizens will know what kind of term limits will apply to the city council and the mayor. In March, Bossier City citizens passed a version of term limits created by the Bossier City Charter Commission.

The term limits being voted on in May are a result of the Bossier Term Limits Coalition. If it passes, that version would supersede the March results. "We feel pretty good that people are voting for term limits.

We feel like this will be a very low turnout election because there aren't any other issues on the ballot," said Bossier Term Limits Coalition member David Crockett. The difference in the two versions is that the one passed in March allows a person to run again after sitting out a term. The May version is retroactive, meaning councilmen that have already served three terms can't run again.

"Every city councilman and the mayor get a lifetime limit of three terms. They can serve those three terms whenever they want, but unlike the term limits that were passed in the last election, those term limits, somebody could run for three terms, skip a term, and then run for another three terms if they want to," said Crockett. While the battle for term limits in Bossier City could come to an end next week.

Bossier Term Limits Coalition members say they aren't done yet. "This should end our basic effort for term limits in Bossier City Council, but we feel like the citizens of Bossier City, when they see the change that's going to occur from this, that maybe we would get term limits in the parish," said Crockett. KTBS will keep you updated on the outcome of this election.
