Boxing legend Frank Bruno made a 'dramatic' recovery after falling ill on a long-haul flight, and he is now planning to attend the Conor Benn vs Chris Eubank Jr fight

Frank Bruno is reportedly set to attend Conor Benn's match against Chris Eubank Jr following his recovery from a sudden illness . The British boxing icon is understood to have fallen ill during a long-haul flight to Thailand in March. Bruno boasts an impressive career record, with only five losses and a WBC heavyweight title win in 1995.

Since retiring in 1996 due to an eye injury, he has remained a prominent figure in the boxing community and recently embarked on a tour to commemorate the 30th anniversary of his title victory. The Mirror reported his tour was scheduled to include a stop in Thailand at the beginning of March. However, the retired icon fell ill during the long-haul flight from Heathrow and never made it to his intended destination.

Bruno was urgently taken to a hospital in Qatar, where he received medical treatment for several weeks. He was later diagnosed with a viral infection, which kept him confined to the Doha hospital. The 63-year-old also received treatment upon his return to the UK but was too unwell to accept a Lifetime Achievement award at the British Boxing awards at the end of March.

And he's now preparing to make his first public appearance since his ordeal earlier this year. The Sun reported Bruno initially received treatment on his Qatar Airways flight and then from airport medics. He was subsequently transported to Al Wakra Hospital, where he stayed for two weeks.

Upon returning to the UK, Bruno had been in poor health for some time. However, he is now on the road to full recovery, with his recuperation described as being "as dramatic as his illness." Bruno is eagerly anticipating the upcoming clash between Benn and Eubank Jnr, planning to be right at the heart of the action with a ringside seat.

He has expressed a strong desire to be present for the match. Having spent Easter surrounded by loved ones, his recuperation is ongoing. Bruno's fans have showered him with thousands of 'get well soon' cards following news of his recent health scare.

"I am getting better and have been told to convalesce for a few weeks," he said in a recent announcement before thanking his followers for their support. "Thank you for all your messages, I now have enough for two new chapters of a book - the last month has been eventful!" Bruno's diary includes a private function on May 7, followed by tour stops in Norfolk three days later, and then another one in Bradford. After concerns about disappointing his devotees in Thailand, Bruno is determined to make his UK commitments without any hitches.
