Surat: In a tragic yet inspiring act, a 45-year-old dyeing master gave a new lease of life to four people through organ donation on Tuesday. Two kidneys and two corneas were harvested from Kiran Patil , who was declared brain-dead after suffering a stroke. Patil, a resident of Bhestan, collapsed while having food at home on Sunday.
He was initially rushed to a private hospital and later shifted to Kiran Hospital for further treatment. Upon examination, doctors diagnosed a brain haemorrhage. Despite efforts to stabilize him, Patil was declared brain-dead on Monday by a team of doctors — Dr Bhaumik Thakore, Dr Hina Faldu, Dr Darshan Trivedi, and Dr Mehul Panchal.
Following the declaration, Donate Life , an NGO that promotes organ donation — intervened and counselled Patil's family. After a heartfelt discussion, the family agreed to donate his organs, bringing hope to others even in their moment of grief. One kidney was transplanted to a 42-year-old patient, while the second went to a 35-year-old recipient, both procedures conducted at Kiran Hospital by a team led by Dr Mukesh Ahir, Dr Pramod Patel, Dr Kalpesh Gohil, and others.
The corneas will be transplanted to visually impaired patients in the coming days.
