Rock and Evangelista first met in 2022 at an Alessandra Rich show during Paris Fashion Week. They were supposed to sit across from each other but someone took the Filipino-American fashion influencer’s seat. “She saved the day because someone was on my seat.

I was too shy and demure to ask them to move. But Heart, being my Ate, asked them to move. She said, ‘this is [his] seat,’” Rock recalled during a brief interview with reporters on the sidelines of the launch of Allure Philippines .

The fashion personalities were recently revealed as the cover stars of the maiden issue of the local beauty magazine Allure in Makati on Wednesday, April 30, which is meant to display the “Filipino beauty now.” Evangelista, who was standing next to Rock, said she reminded him to not be scared to stand up for himself, especially when he is in the right. “I told him, don’t say sorry because he kept on saying sorry [at the time].

” “You know Filipinos — tayo na nga [nakakaisahan], tayo pa nagso-sorry (We are the ones being stepped on yet we are the ones saying sorry). So I said, ‘This is his seat,’” she continued. Up until now, that particular moment was “amazing” for Rock and he hoped to do the same for “little Bretmans” in the future.

“It felt amazing. It’s not just a woman but a fellow Filipina woman. I think it’s so rare to see a lot of us, especially in the fashion industry.

For her to stand up for me for the way that she did, it meant a lot to me,” he told INQUIRER.net in a separate interview. Rock added that the encounter reminded him to be a “better” Filipino.

“I think about it every time. I would love to somehow be like that for someone else because there is a little Bretman whose seat is taken. It’s just a great example.

It makes me want to be a better person and a better Filipino,” he further explained. Heart Evangelista and Bretman Rock during the Allure Philippines launch event in Makati. Image: Hannah Mallorca/INQUIRER.

net Growing up with his mother, grandmother, and aunties in Hawaii taught Rock to be confident inside and out. “It was not hard to be confident [because of my] aunties, grandmother, and mother. They didn’t directly give me advice but to be surrounded by them, these Filipina women made me into the beautiful person I am today,” he said about his childhood.

This explains why the fashion influencer values the advice and side comments from his mother. “I feel like I give a f*** about my mom when she scolds me. I [don’t] take it with a grain of salt because no one humbles me like my mom,” he said in response to a question about certain things he finds value in.

“Sometimes, I tell my mom that I want to do stand-up comedy and then she be like, ‘Sinong may sabi na funny ka (who says you’re funny)?’” he further explained, noting that his mom is his greatest hater and supporter. “I give a f*** because she’s my mom and at the same time, I don’t give a f*** [with life] because of my mom.” Heart Evangelista and Bretman Rock during the Allure Philippines launch party in Makati.

And I think it’s time for a woman to take over. Women are taking over and as they should.” The Filipino-American influencer made a name for himself as a media personality with a knack for beauty, skincare, and fashion, and has been invited on multiple fashion- and beauty-related shows.
